1994 sonoma wont hardly run under load

I just bought this truck and the guy I bought it from said it needed a prom chip? but I am not so certain. the truck shorted out a wire going to the fuel inj. throtle body with the 2 injectors on top, after wire had been replaced it still dont want to run under load, idle is smooth and i checked the vacuum it sits still a 15 when idle, but put it in gear and you have to work the pedel to keep it running and misses stalls hesitation you barly can drive it. what are the signs of a bad prom chip or should i look somewhere else for the problem. thanks

Have the Sonoma scaned for DTC codes. I think your Sonoma is a OBD1 system and you can retrieve the DTC codes your self. Start with check for DTC codes, here is a link for you to retrieve the DTC codes your self. But from what you have described. Seems like a faulty knock sensor, Good luck and keep us posted.
