I have a 1995 GMC Sierra So I was driving along and all of a sudden the check engine light came on i didn't think much of it because there was no noise from the engine and the gauges all looked normal as i kept driving the check engine light came off and I just forgot that It even happened. About a mile later I noticed that the engine was not responding to my acceleration thats when things started to get bad. After about 100 yards I was stopped at a red light and it just stalled on me. I tried to get it started again but all gauges were fine so i kept driving trying to get home. on the way home it stalled once again. I have no idea what is going on I know that my heater hose connector needed to be replaced. but I have been just adding water since then.. any Ideas on what is going on?

Head gaskets going are very obvious.
Check on your oil filler cap if theres a white creamy stuff there, you've blown it. But you'll also notice power reduction, white smoke from exhaust is another one. Look around the head (where the head joins the block) if you see bubling or steam you've blown it.
Its an easy job. to do. Rocker covers off. Undo head bolts. Undo all things attached to head i.e. dizze cap, water pump, cambelt (im not familer with these engines but its fairly universal) Send the head(s) off for pressure testing/reskimming, put a head back on with new gasket and a new cambelt. set up timing and bolt it all back together, manualy crank it then if its not smashing valves on pistons, sorted!

Start with the simple and check all your fluids. If all fluids are good, check for DTC codes. Here is a link for you to get your DTC codes and hope it will lead you to the issue that needs to be addressed.

If the head bolts are TTY be sure to buy new ones first before you start the operation.
With proper tools, plan on a good half day to do the job properly.
There's another method to check but if the gasket is blown internally (between the cylinders) it won't work: take a propane torch and with the engine running move the torch around each head as best you can. If the engine races, you've found your leak.
