Which would be more reliable: 1995 GMC Jimmy SLT or 2000 Ford Explore XLT?

The asking price is $4250 for either one. The 95 Jimmy has 140K miles, has a V6 Vortec, and is in excellent shape. The 2000 Explorer has 111k miles but the interior, 4.0 V6 and exterior are a little dented and banged, but the tires have twice the tread as the Jimmy. Both ride well and brakes, etc. seem to be pretty good.

Basically, I'm looking for reliability in a vehicle that I can carry my grandkids in, tow a camper occasionally and general urban driving. Thanks for any and all advice.

Keep looking, the asking price is way inflated and even for the 2000 Explorer, it should be around the $2,500 rang and the 95 Jimmy should be $1,000 range.

Both have isses but what to look for in older vehicals is the condition of the Fuel, Brake and transmission lines. Look for corrosion that will neeed to be addressed. Good luck and hope you find a great vehicle for your family. ;)

I bought a GMC Jimmy SLT 1995 with nice interior about two months ago. The driver seat has some worn outs and the carpet is a little dirty.
But I am very glad that I bought it and I am using it for commuting. I drove already 5000miles with it. I payed $2,000 and it was every penny worth.
At this age you have to look at the mechanical side, my exterior is not so good, big dent in the bumper and hood, but the transmission was replaced/ rebuild from a transmission shop about 25kmiles ago (a $2,500 value) and my maintenance record book is full. I would never buy a car with a engine problems and bad maintenance records. If you maintain your car good then it will last longer. Don´t worry about the tires, you can replace them if you want and they are always a good reason to drop the price:-)
But $4,250 is way to much for these. Look at consumerguide or kellybluebook what price they expected.
My uncle has a Ford Explorer 2002 with 200kmiles on it, so I can´t say the Ford is bad. I love my Jimmy!!
