Hi everyone, i just baught a 1997 GMC sierra. I am new to the gmc world and to owning a vehicle for that matter. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out whats making a noise on my truck. When i come to a stop there is a "clunk" noise that comes from the back of the truck. At first i thought it was the chocks as it seems like the weight shifts forward and when it comes back the "clunk" is heard. But the shocks check out fine. Its not a big enough issue that i cant drive the truck but i dont want it to lead to something worse. or get worse for that matter. Any ideas what it may be?? Thanks in advance. Luke

Check you U-joint to your drive shaft, your leaf springs isolators ( there nylon spacers between the left springs) and your rear brakes. Your rear brakes shoes and drums may be to worn and could be binding when coming to a stop.

Good luck and keep us posted, and i take it the spare tire is secure. ;)

I think the brakes are worn down as i have to push the brake pedal down pretty far before the brakes start to work. Thanks a lot!
