Been through all of the big 3 now. We'll see how this one works out. I just purchases a like new 09 Sierra 4D, z71. Beautiful truck. I like almost everything about it, but I CAN'T stand how low these trucks ride, especially the raked front end! Disappointing! I came from an 04 Ram that rode nice and high from the factory.

At any rate, I'm NOT interested in suspension/lift kits, but I have ordered a 2" rough country leveling kit.

Questions:

Is this RC leveling kit a good buy? I have factory 17 in wheels on the truck with 265/70 Wranglers. These have to go. I'm wanting something more aggressive and was thinking about moving to a 285. With the leveling kit, will I be able to get those under the front in with no rubbing? If so, how much will this throw my computer off? Not interested in having a reprogram either..will this be a problem? Lastly, will I have to get new tire pressure monitoring sensors if I do upgrade in size? What happens if I don't? Will I have the check pressure light on all the time?

Thanks!

I also have no idea if I have 17x7 or 17x8. This will also help me decide if I want, or even can move up in tire size. I can't find it anywhere from the original sticker that came with the truck.

You won't have any trouble putting a 285 tire on a stock GMT900 truck, a friend bought his truck and he had 285's put on before it left the dealer and had no issues at all.

As for your TPMS http://gmcowners.com/gmc-forum/showthread.php?t=14401

Good luck and keep us posted.

can anyone help me out trying to figure out if i have 17 x 8 or 17 x 7 rims? I've checked the owner's manual, birth certificate and inside the door jam. all i can find is 17 in" wheels; nothing about the width.

17 x 7.5 is the rim size is what's on your Sierra, the Options are 18 x 8 and 20 x 8.5 from the manufacturer. Here are the tire size on the other rim size just for a bit more info P265/65R18 and P275/55R20.

Hope this helps. :D

Have you done this yet? I'm very interested in putting a little bigger tires on my 07 but the 265/70/17's rub on my mudflaps.

There is a tire placard on the door or door frame and it usually gives you the wheel size.

Be advised that larger tires will throw off you speedometer and alter you gear ratios to some extend all the while the operating sensors are still working with the oem tire size to compute trans shift points etc.

Not everyone likes a truck that rides high. We had a 2500 4x4 Dodge at work (DOT GPS Survey Crew) and everyone hated to use the truck because it was hard to get in and out of 50x times a day, having to climb into the box to reach things etc. The Ford and the GM's were easy to work out of.

As for the front rake, when you add 500 lbs to the box which a truck is mainly designed for, hauling, its level.

Of course all the young guys wanted to drive the Dodge so we let them.
