Why is my 1993 GMC Sierra stuck in 5th gear?

Went to shift out of 5th and into 4th and transmission would not go into gear, when I pulled over and put the shifter in (what should be) neutral the car stalls out when I let off the clutch..

Blown tranmission? Please give ideas, anything helps.

I don't know of an easy way to tell you this, but your trans might be done. The shift forks may have gotten destroyed. You could take the shifter out and see if something is jammed in the linkage, but that might require taking the whole trans out to actually get a good look at things. You can remove the shifter and boot from the floor to take the top of the transmission off i believe.

Here is a link to your transmission, and hope it helps you under stand that's in side your transmission. Sorry for the bad news and common cause of the failure is lack of lubrication. (low on transmission oil):eek:
