I need to find out the gear ratio in the rear differential gears so I can replace them. How do I find this ratio? Someone told me look in the glovebox and there should be a sticker, but the sticker is faded, and I cannot read it.

Sticker faded, visit your local GM dealer parts department with your VIN number and they can look up your RPO codes and give you the print out to your Sierra's RPO codes or you can try this http://www.compnine.com/vid.php

Good luck and keep us posted. :D

Thank you, that website helped find exactly what I needed. Unfortunately, upon closer inspection of said gears, my spider gears were chewed up. No salvage yards around here have a rear end to replace it with, so I need to replace my gears. I have a limited slip G80 in it and have been told I have to replace the whole differential instead of just replacing the gears. Is it possible to replace it with a non locking differential instead of a new G80 one?

thank you, that website told me exactly what i needed. unfortunately, no salvage yards around here have a rear end that has the same gear ratio to replace mine with. my spider gears are chewed up and i've been told that because i have a G80 limited slip in it i cannot just replace the gears themselves but the whole differential. Due to the cost of this, i was wondering if i could replace it with a open differential or if i had to replace it with another limited slip locker.

That website helped me a lot. Unfortunately, I have chewed up my spider gears. I've been told since I have a G80 limited slip I cannot just replace the gears on it because the clutches are more than likely buggered up, but i had to replace the whole differential. I cannot find a rear end at a salvage yard around here with a 3.73 gear ratio on it like I need. There are plenty of 3.42 ratios though. Due to the prices of replacement parts with the G80 on it, I was wondering if there was a way to replace it with just an open differential. I never put it in 4 wheel drive, and I keep it on the paved roads. Any suggestions?
