Hi I have a 1997 Jimmy.Having problems with the heater control.When I move the selector for the center the center vents nothing is blowing out. This happens intermittently. Then the next day the vents will start blowing normal. What gives???? Loose connector on the selector control!??

Check your vacuum lines for cracks and transmission fluid. A cracked vacuum line will cause you to have low vacuum for the vent selection switch. The other issues also that is known to cause this same issue is the 4wd vacuum switch on top of the transfer-case go bad and will start to leak transmission fluid in to the vacuum lines.

The transmission fluid will makes it's way throughout the lines and in to your vent selection switch. The switch it self is just a fancy vacuum selector to the different lines to the vent actuator.;)

Start with the vacuum lines coming from the intake manifold on the drivers side by the throttle body. Just follow it to the vacuum canister and from there follow it towards the firewall. It's common for the vacuum lines to go bad from the intake manifold to the vacuum canister.

If there is transmission fluid throughout your vacuum lines, replace the 4wd vacuum switch on top of the transfer-case. Good luck and keep us posted.

Seems like it could be the blower motor resistor....tap on it and the blower motor kicked in....Then the next time the blower motor didnt work did the same thing and nothing......Tried jiggling the wires on the resistor last night and bingo the motor kicked in and has been working for 2 days now no problems......Could it be loose connection or the connector contacts need cleaning???....Or the resitor is on its way out???

Should I dump a new blower resistor in?

Clean the pin connection and you should be good to go unless the connection on the harness has gone bad. As in melted and your going ot have to repalce it.

Great work and keep us posted.

This thing is getting crazy.......Blower motor didnt work again later on today so I cleaned the contacts on the blower resistor and blower motor connectors.....Nothing worked.....so this time I tapped the blower motor and it kicked in :confused:

Weird, the last time I jiggled the blower resistor wiring harness and the motor kicked in, then today when the motor wasnt working I played with the resistor connector again and the motor didnt work. Cleaned both harnesses with contact cleaner and still nothing worked....Tapped on the blower motor and it kicked in...........

:confused::confused:

Any Ideas guys??

I have the same issue with my 96 Jimmy. I've done everything you have, problem still persists. I even pulled the resistor out and plugged back in being it's suppose to some how make it think it reset it?? Read on forum somewhere before..but anyway, turns out I need to replace my blower motor. :mad: I'm going to say unfortunatly you will probably have to do the same. Guess they are known for it! Best of luck!

P.S I have even replaced the switch in the dash thinking it could of been that. And of course, it wasn't that simple of a problem.

same issue also
