Common for the wire harness to the blower motor or the resistor has gone bad do to it melting. Inspect the connections at the blower motor and the resistor, if there are any signs of damage from over heated plastic. Replace it, Gm had a TSB a while back on replacing the wire harness for this issue.

Good luck and keep us posted, oh and also forgot. Check the switch it self. the contacts have been know to wear out causing the same issues you are having.
