I found a 2000 4.3 vortec v6 that I can get cheaper than rebuilding the original 1997 4.3. The salvage yard stated the only changes needed are the '97 intake assembly and both valve covers to be installed on the 2000 engine. I may also need the exhaust manifolds.

There slight variation in the 4.3 Vortec into the vehicle application. If the 4.3 is from another Jimmy, Blazer, Bravada, Astro/Safari van and only the 4wd Sonoma. The engine will be the same and accessory mounts from the years of 1996-2002.

The other variations were used in the full size pick up, Van and 2wd Sonoma's. All are the L35 family Vortec engine and your better off waiting to find the right engine from the ones mentioned above for a much better plug and play engine swap.

One last note, you may just want to swap out the engine in yours for a rebuilt with warranty as to the one from the salvage yard. Call around to engine rebuilt shop and get a average cost of an engine with up to date parts and gaskets. http://www.jasperengines.com/index.php.

Good luck and keep us posted. ;)

that is so funny, i just put a 97 4.3l into my 2000 jimmy. i only had to swap the exhaust manifolds and oil pressure switch.for some reason the 97 didn't have a secondary air injection pump which is fed by the exhaust manifolds. oh and the 97 uses standard trans to engine and starter mount bolts, the 2000 uses metric. btw i'm new here and this is my first post/reply but I feel that I had to join so that I may help and be helped.
