This thread is for molson if you dont mind me asking. You have mentioned your gmc jimmy a few times with like a million miles on it and no major issues, which impresses me. So i was wondering if you could give us a brief description of your maintenance schedule and how you have kept it running so long. Thanks
Just follow the maintenance schedule and replace any worn parts. Example i add Marvel Mystery oil about 1000 miles before my next oil change to clean out any carbon in the the engine. I been using the recommended 5W30 conventional oil.
As for the transmission oil, i have a remote transmission oil filter in line to help keep the fluid clean. When i service the transmission every 80,000 miles, i replace the boost valve and sleeve every time only and extra $45.00. Note i also have replace the stock servo with a Corvette servo ($40.00) for a better and firmer shift.
The rest of the drive train, differential and transfer case is service once a year, replace any seals that look like it's going bad and the u joint replaced once a year good or bad when getting the drive train serviced.
The #1 thing i do, is i warm up the Jimmy before i go beating up on it on the roads. This will give the oil seals, bearing and piston to expand with the engine block so there will not be any additional stress and also throughout the Jimmy. So no jumping on the hiway 5 min after i started it up.
Other then that I use Marine grease to lube my Jimmy, it cost a little more but it has better water resistant properties and last longer.
