I was wondering what type of front diff is in my 98. The person I bought it from said he changed the rear gears but not the front. How does this work? Is the front direct drive from the transfer case and spins at same speed as rear? New to this type of 4x4 system. Need a little insight. Help if and when you can. Thanks:confused:

Correct, the front and rear differential need to match. If they don't match, there will be binding issues and a most likely transfer case detonation.

You can go visit the dealer parts department with your vin number to your Sierra and they can give you a printout to what options was ordered in your Sierra when delivered from the factory.

Good luck and hope this helps. ;)

An my 2000 sierra there is a sticker in the glove box with the codes. It's the GT code that tells the gears. I had GT 5 4:10 gears.
