hey guys i just recently purchased a 2000 gmc jimmy with 150k on it. here's my problem usually after driving for a bit when i accelerate on a green light the car makes it to about 1500-2000 rpm the will stutter and usually die. i will put the car in neutral restart it put it back in gear and take off fine. once it starts doing that it usually continues thru out the day mostly on take off but sometimes at idle. then yesterday i went to grab lunch and after eating we went to leave and the car wouldn't start at all. i had it towed to my house while pulling it off the truck i tried to start it and it started right up. while its running it runs perfect no rough idle, no shifting problems no nothing. any info in the right direction will be greatly appreciated. if you need more info to help diagnose please ask.

Start with the simple and replace your fuel filter. From what you have described, the fuel filter has gone to the end of it's life and will need to be replaced as soon as you can before it will no longer restart.

If the fuel filter is good the next thing I would look at is the pressure regulator on the fuel spider in the upper manifold. Automotive forums has a great step by step process with photos to do this job should tale a little over an hour

Before going after the regulator check to see if your oil smells like fuel if so then it's definitely the regulator

ok so i ended up running into the previous owner and asked if he had similar issues. he asks me if i had put gas in the car yet and i said no cause the fuel gauge was marking a little under the quarter tank mark and the distance to empty meter had more then a few miles on it also i had planned on refueling on the way home but never made it. he tells me that when the car has under a quarter tank it does stall and not start (you think he could a mentioned that lol). when the issue first started the first thing that came to my mind was it was out of gas from the symptoms but then thinking the issue was with the fuel pump i hesitated on adding gas cause its easier to drop an empty fuel tank then a full one. so i drive to the gas station and fill up and i have been driving all day picking up super bowl supplies (go packers
) and it hasn't repeated the issue at all. i went from full to about a half a tank so i did some decent traveling and nothing. i will keep the tank above a quarter for now and see if the problem comes back. anybody have any idea why it might do that even tho it might be avoidable i still want to correct the issue.

Reset the fuel gauge needle or replace the sending unit, will fix your issue.
