2005 Duramax Problems

This is my brother's truck and he's having a hell of a time with it. Here's the short story:

- The truck went into power reduce mode,
- They ran it on the scanner the first time and it had 5 or 6 codes egr, fuel pressure, trans...
- After running the diagnostic check it pointed to the fuel rail pressure sensor, replaced that, same thing all over again, this time not as many codes.
- Put in the "proper" sensor, ran the diagnostic check again and same thing, telling us the sensor is bad.
- Checked the mass airflow sensor, an replaced the fuel filter today

This is the GM dealership and they've now said that they don't know what the problem is.

Any ideas?

Have then check the throttle peddle position sensor and have then take the Sierra out for a test drive with the Tech2 scanner to get a real time performance history on the PCM readings. Also see of they can re-flash or if there is a updated PCM program from GM it self.

Good luck and keep us posted, note there are also more then one dealer that you can take it to and some techs are better then others.

I see that Molson02536 suggested a few things for the dealership to try, but if your brother’s still experiencing the concerns, I’d suggest he call GM Canada Customer Assistance. They’ll be able to look into the matter further for him. Their number is (800) 263-3777 and their hours are M-F 7:30 AM – 11:30 PM and Saturday 7:30 AM – 6 PM EST.

I'm the brother. The local dealer figures it's the computer. Turns out it's not actually in power reduce mode, it just can't build any rail pressure. They figure the computer is gone because they have power going in but nothing coming out. That's where we are today, they'll have the computer in tomorrow and I guess we'll find out if they're right.
