Start with the simple and replace the Thermostat and also the coolant. You have the Dex-Cool in there and they have a life span of 5 years or 100,000 miles.

Best to do is to use Preston Radiator Flush to clean out the cooling system and then replace the coolant with a 50/50 mix of water and Dex-Cool. This sill ensure another 5 years of service, I my self service mine no longer then 3 years and i use the Fail Safe Thermostat which will lock open when there is any overheating issues.

Good luck and keep us posted.;)

Thank you, I will start with that. How much does the fail safe thermostat run ballpark?

The fail safe thermostat is about $4.00 to $5.00 more then the conventional one's which is worth the cost. If there is any issues, you can still keep driving the Sierra till your replace it.

Good luck and keep us posted.;)

one more silly question.I have got everything you recomended and installed the new stat having trouble locating the radiator drain plug to flush the system????

Well disregaurd that last question. I figured it out but im oretty sure the water pump is bad heater hoses are both the same temp, engine is still warming quickly after stat replaced and radiator flushed and not hot air from the heater what so ever.Wrench time.

Sorry for the bad news, when you replace the water pump. Use water first in the system to find any leaks first, that way if there is any leaks. It's just water that you are draining to address any water leak issues.

Once you are sure that there are no leaks, then drain the water and replace it with Radiator coolant. Keep up the great work and keep us posted. ;)
