I bought a 98 sonoma from a guy with a new engine from the dealer for $250! Only catch...trans. doesn't shift. The trans. worked before old owner hired some ass to install the new engine and trans. together and now it doesn't shift. it won't even show the correct gear that your shifting into. I got it into what i thought was drive and it acted like it wanted to go, bot no luck. Can anyone give any advice. Thanks

Start with the simple and inspect the transmission fluid level with the engine not running and then recheck it with the engine running. This is hoe to check for pump failure, check fluid level with the engine off, then start the engine and recheck fluid level. If level does not go down when engine is running, the pump is broken.

The other thing also is to inspect your the linkages to your transmission. inspect to make sure that there tight and and the gear selector shaft on the side of the transmission is moving out of park. If it does move then good chance of the above issue may happened.

Post back and we can go from here. ;)
