I just have one question if anyone could fill me in. I just bought a 95 Jimmy. The heat seems VERY weak but is working. The fan works but I can feel almost nothing for temperature. Is this a common problem with the Jimmy?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Well being as though i just got my 96 Jimmy less than a week ago, I will not be able to give you any advice on how to correct the issue but I can tell you that my 96 has a lot of heat. Feels nice on way to work :) So like I said, I think you have an issue but I could not begin to help with it.

Start with the simple and service your cooling system while the weather is still good. Winter is so much harder to work on cars :D.

Flush out your old coolant and use http://www.prestone.com/products/print/424?popup=1 to clean out your heater core and radiator. The Dex-cool when left unserviced and left in used longer then 4 years tend to crystallize causing over heating and poor heater performance.

Once you have flushed out the old coolant, replace your thermostat and coolant. Make sure you have the new Dex-cool mixed 50/50 dex-water. To much coolant in the mixture will jell and cause poor circulation, to much water in the mixture will freeze and my crack your radiator or heater core.

Good luck and keep us posted. ;)

Thank you. Yes I was going to change the thermostat and coolant. I will look at this on the weekend and let you know. thanks for the advice.

Better yet flush out all the Dex - Crap and use regular glycol. If the acidity is too high it becomes corrosive. It can actually oxidize aluminum, damage gaskets, seals, rubber hoses and O rings. I've only ever owned GM's and i've flushed that orange junk out of them all.

Yes I have an aluminum rad and I was worried about that(warning on the container). I don't know anything about glycol. I will look for it in the ingredients. Any coolant product in parcicular that is the best for a 95 Jimmy?

I'm going to change my coolant tomorrow. I went with the prestone and flush that comes with it in my last vehicle. Ate away the heater core and I was leaking coolant.

Good news though. I hooked the garden hose up to my heater core. I flushed like I've never flushed before. Heat works excellent now.

It means I need to flush the whole system tomorrow. Looks disgusting.

Thanks for all the advice. Much appreciated

Sorry that was a 2005 Jimmy and wondering about the coolant type to install.
