I have a 1998 Sierra Extended Cab z71 and would like to get some information on towing with this particular truck. i have a car hauler that weighs about 2000 lbs and a 1973 impala that weighs anywhere from 4500-5000 lbs.(5000 may be a little to high, i'm just guessing based on the web). Should my Sierra be able to handle this weight with no problem? a total trailer weight of about 7000 lbs? My manual says it should but i'm not sure what axle ratio i have? how do i find out? has anyone towed with a 1998 siera or earlier model, if so, how was the tow? I have about 190,000 miles on it right now.

I don't have a 98 but 7K Lbs !! you will defiantly feel the weight pulling and stopping. If your using the car for racing I bet it weighs less, if the trailer has 2 axles most have surge brakes. Where do you live? lots of hills or just a short distance to the track? Make sure all your maintenance is up to par tune up and brakes and suspension. You can calculate your own axle ratios ( google ) it's easy. Do you have a choice on the towing vehicle?
let us know what you do?

i'm not using it for racing, it's just a pleasure car. i would like to tow it about 330 miles from Atlanta to Mobile, Al. yes the trailer has two axles rated at 3500 lbs each. it's not a lot of hills but there are some. they are not steep hills. the only other choice i have on the towing vehicle will be a 2001 gmc yukon slt.

Weights were approximately 4,087-4,162 lbs.. unless it has a big block. I would use the Yukon my self. plan to use lot's of gas and some oil. good luck \
Be careful and and check everything. For a one way trip and taking it easy I would do it
