My '03 Sonoma SLS 4.3 4x4 is about to flip over to 100k and is starting to become a money pit. I want to upgrade to a full size but don't want to buy new. I found a really clean '06 Sierra 1500 SLE Z71 one owner clean carfax that is within my price range ($18k). The problem? It has 72k miles on it. That is within the 12k per year average I was always told to look for, but it would be at least 130k when my 5 year loan is up. Plus, I don't know how hard this truck was driven. Should the miles be a concern? Is 18k a fair price? Are full size trucks generally more well built than smaller trucks? Please advise.

I think a good rule of thumb for any purchase of a used vehicle is to have it inspected by a professional. I would find a reputable mechanic that primarily focuses on GMC pickups. I would ask for a bumper to bumper inspection. He will give you a list of everything "wrong" and also be able to anser your questions about any known issues with that particular year/model.

If they vehicle is as clean and unabused as the seller may be telling you, he shouldn't mind you wanting to have an inspection. If he refuses, there may be hidden issues.

Anyway, thats my two cents.

totally agree on this one..:)

You can also read thru the forum and look for common / notorious problems ( if any )
associated with that year's model , that way if you do decide to buy it and a certain
notorious part does fail you won't be caught to off-gaurd .
