Hello Everyone,
I ran across this forum while looking for a solution to a problem I'm having with my '95 Jimmy 2-door 4x4. Seems like a nice forum so I thought I'd join. I first bought this Jimmy in 1997. It has gone through several family members and now I have it back. It needs alot of work so I've been working on it slowly over the last year or so. The starting issue appeared after the first freeze plug leaked...don't see how it could be related.
Here's the story on the Jimmy: It's very difficult to start but runs perfectly after it's started. I have to try starting it in short bursts for it to work...takes several tries but it eventually fires and stays running. If I just let it crank it won't start.
Here's everything I've done so far...all AFTER the starting issue began:
-replaced air intake boot (torn)
-replaced several brake lines (rusted,leaky)
-replaced transmission cooler line (rusted, leaky)
-replaced 2 freeze plugs (rusted,leaking)
-replaced EGR valve (including new gasket with screen)would act up once in a while and needed removed and cleaned
-replaced fuel pressure regulator
-replaced distributor cap and rotor
-replaced spark plugs
-installed all new exhaust including cat converter and O2 sensor
-installed new fuel filter
I'm getting 52-54 psi fuel pressure at schrader valve with key on, engine not running. Pressure drops pretty quickly after key is shut off (2-3 minutes)
I'll attach a picture of my intake plenum...this is why I thought the regulator was shot...looks like that side is "washed"??
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
