I took my 2000 jimmy on a 900 mile drive with a full 6x12 uhaul trailer when i was towing up hill thr truck started to over heat, i was about 3500 rpms for a while going up a huge hill, well my truck started overheating, turns out my radiator has a huge crack in it, not a big deal i can put one in but my question is why did it crack? just from the haul or something else is up, water pump, gasket? I did the intake manifold gasket 6 months ago, i hope thats not it. how do I check other things before putting a radiator in it?

Good chance that is just wear and tear from time. The out side ends of the radiator is plastic and can be bought separate from the GM parts store and you can replace that part alone of replace the whole radiator.

Dont forget to use straight water first to check for any leaks, then refill with 50/50 Dex-cool and a new thermostat.

Good luck and keep us posted.:D

ok new radiator in, filled it up, no leaks, however ran it and it got hot 3/4 the way real fast... the thermostat was done when i did the intake manifold gasket 6 months ago, should i put a new one in again? didnt see any leaks which is good i think. im letting the truck cool off and rechck the coolant level and then try again... any ideas would be greatly appreciated as i still have this trailer loaded with my home and no where to drop it.

ok filled it up complete, ran the heater for a while then the a/c let it sit for a good 20-30 min and the temp gauge didnt move passed the half way mark or slighty under, phew! Thanks Molson!
