I have a 2000 GMC Sierra 2500 LSE, I dont know what kind of tranny, i think its a 4l80e, but its starting to shift hard. I just bought it too, from a privet owner. i test drove it and went well, but now it shifts hard. when the temp gauge reads 150 (normal) its starts to shift hard in all gears. and when i test drove it i made sure temp gauge was up, and i drove it for awhile, but when its not warm it shifts great and pulls great, but the second it gets warm it pounds in the gears. 1-4. the last owner did do alot of highway miles, but its hasnt been driven much for last 3-4 months. now i just want to try and change the filter and fluids first and try that, but the fluid is still that cherry red, and doesnt smell burnt or anything. but was wondering if i can just go easy on it and leave it for now, i dont have alot of money. could it be torque converter, valve body, solinoids, anything like that. i need someone that knows there stuff to help me. truck has 150xxx

Shift suddenly become very hard. When going from park to either reverse or drive it slams into gear. 1-2 and 2-3 shifts are also harsh. All gears seems to work. Problem may be intermittent: Check TPS for smooth electrical response. If the response is jumpy or erratic at all, replace TPS.

Start with this simple check and keep us posted. Good luck. ;)

well i just found out today that if i drive around in drive 3 it doesnt slam into all the gears, i dont slam at all, shifts great. but if i just put in D it shifts hard. and my tow and haul button doesnt work, i click it in and no light shows up or a difference in the shift like it normally does.
