I have a 99 jimmy 4.3l and I had a problem the other night driving down the road I lost power and the motor was surging on its own. I limped it home and next morning it was completely dead. I had a buddy jump it and it started, then I went to drive it and when I hit the gas pedal the voltage meter spikes to max and then I hit the brakes and it drops to normal at 14. Would this be an alternator issue or battery or voltage regulator, Im lost!

That's an issue with the Voltage regulator, the bad news is that its built in with the Alternator and better to replace the whole unit for a rebuilt one. This way you know you have new bearings and brushes also for more reliable years of service. ;)

Would not hurt also to replace your Battery if you had it in there for more then 3 years. ;)

Good luck and keep us posted.
