Radiator Failure ruins transmission

2002 Envoy XL with tow package. At 67000 miles, discovered radiator failure had caused coolant/ trans fluid mix. Tranny fluid looked like pudding. Mechanic said pretty rare, he could only recall seeing once before. Replaced radiator, trans, etc. After much discussion, GM gave me some financial relief.
Now 3 years, 8 months and 27000 miles later, the SAME THING HAPPENS.
This time GM says that radiator failed but since it had only a 12/12000 guarantee, they were not liable, and they don't cover ancillary failures like the transmission. They did graciously offer a $2500 credit if I were to buy a new GM vehicle. (who out there thinks that will happen?)
As a side note, the service manager suggested an external trans fluid cooler, but they don't do that kind of work.
My new goal is to discourage as many as I can from a GM vehicle.

yea that has to suck. It's not so much a matter of discouraging potential buyers of GM vehicles as much as it is the responsibility of the buyer to do their homework on what vehicle they wish to purchase.

Nearly 4 years later, I would no hold GM liable, however, what kind of 'failure' is it you speak of...the transmission lines go thru the radiator for cooling purposes, if I remember right (we have an '04 Envoy XUV). What failed? Was there no prior warning; that is, would or could this have been avoided with preventative maintenance? Has the cooling system been inspeced since the original failure/repair and the recent occurance? Just curious. Is this a common problem - that is, have you done any research regarding this sort of failure and problems associated with it?

As an addendum and long shot, you might have legal recourse if you speak to an attorney. I would at least examine the possibility of recovering more on the repair, especially if it's a known recurring issue.

We have an 04 Envoy; not my favorite vehicle, though my wife purchased it in '05, two years before we were married. As it was paid for, I just accepted it and that was that. However, I can say that I am VERY happy she had the extended warranty as it's saved us thousands in repair costs on that d*mn thing.

The extended warranty have expired, and we are going to keep it IF we can find another reasonable extended warranty (it has only 60K miles on it).
