Hi, this happened just yesterday to me.I got in my 2000 gmc jimmy to go to the store. I'm going down the road and I notice a dashboard light that says check gauges.I look and it says zero pressure on the oil pressure gauge. The engine seems to have oil pressure(no knocking or ticking), I even got on the gas a little to see if it was going to blow .seemed solid to me.I checked the oil ,it was down a quart.I wonder if the oil pressure sending unit is bad.And where is it located

Sounds like your oil pressure sending unit may have gone bad. Start with the simple and inspect the wire harness at the sending unit. It's located behind the distributor on the right side - in a horizontal position, with a connector and 2 wires on it.

I had a oil problem on my 02 Jimmy when the sensor cover cracked and leaking oil. In order to replace the sending unit, you have to remove the distributor which is the only way to replace the sending unit and you also will need a oil pressure sensor socket to remove and replace the sending unit (tool rental at Auto Zone). If you try to use a normal socket or wrench, you will most likely damage/destroy the sending unit.

Good luck and this takes about 30 min from start to finish. Keep us posted:D

Easy job to do and easier in Florida and not up here in the winter wonderland lol. It takes about 30 min to do start to finish and yes, you only have to remove the distributor cap to get to the Oil Sending unit and make sure they give you the right oil sending unit for your Jimmy. ;);)

Keep us posted.
