I am now a owner of a 93 Sierra 5.7L. Trucks awesome I really do like it but it has some problems like sometimes it stalls when I put it in drive, and it idles rough. I changed the spark plugs still the same problem, I'm thinking I need to replace the fuel filter. What do you guys think? Thanks

start with all the simple preventive maintinance
spark plugs - did you check the plug gap before you installed them?
plug wires
cap & rotor - when you do note where the burn mark is on the rotor it should'nt be on one of the ends of rotor if it is distributer is phased incorrecttly (that was the cause of the miss on my '98)

filters - fuel , air ,
oil change and filter
tranny fluid change and filter
later in time flush brake fluid, replace power steering fluid ( i used a turkey baster)

my '98 was a great truck i had it for 13 yrs i had headers, flowmaster, k&n, wheels tires
Your '93 is there any mods done to it

Fuel filter is a good start since the TBI were pressure sensitive to good performance.

Here are a few other things also to check for, check the map sensor vacuum hoses to ensure they are secure to the sensor as well as the vacuum nipple on the backside of the throttle body. Have seen a few of these where the hose at the TB was knocked loose and caused idle issues.

Also might want to removed the IAC to clean out any crude that could be blocking the port into the tbody. Do not attempt to clean the IAC in any cleaner. The IAC are cheap, just replace it if you have to.

The EGR usually gets clogged where it mates to the head. Use a throttle body cleaner to clean out the carbon built up and then start the engine with the EGR off and it should sound like a very loud exhaust leak. Rev the engine really quick a few times to really clean it out. Before installing the EGR valve, inspect it to make sure its not binding after you clean it also.

Last is to buy a bottle of http://www.seafoamsales.com/. Follow the directions, enjoy a better running truck. These things should bring back life into your Sierra.

Keep us posted and we can go from here. ;)
