2004 gmc jimmy 4x4 with the 4.3 vortec
I changed the belt a couple years ago and it still squeeled after that so the guy said it was probably the tension pully. I didnt have a prob. with heat until now.
This morning was really wet and raining and the belt squeeled more than usual.
After a while the squeeling stopped but still no heat at an idle. If I put a load on the motor I get a little bit of heat but not hot like usual. The coolant level is full and when running looks like all the pullies are turning. If anyone has any ideas of what it could be pls reply.

Start with the simple and flush out our coolant system and replace the thermostat. The Dexcool coolant in your Jimmy has a life expectancy of 5 years, i replace mine no longer then 4 years and replace the thermostat and replace any radiator hose that seams to be to soft.

The thermostat in your Jimmy is a 190'F so make sure you pick up the right one, there are other thermostat that has a lower setting. But with stock program in your ECM, 190'F works the best for performance and economy unless the program in your ECM has been reprogramed to take a different thermostat reading. Thermostat takes about 15 min to replace with common ratchet set with deep sockets.

BTW some of the radiators didn't come with a drain plug on them, but rather drain the coolant through the plug, just remove the lower radiator hose to drain the radiator and collect the old coolant to be disposed of later at a garage.

Keep us posted and stay safe;)

Thank you that makes sence because I have never changed the coolant and it will be 5 years of ownership in july.

Bumping an old thread here................

Sad to say, I haven't flushed the radiator in about 6 years now. The last time it was done was when I had a new engine put in (a whole 'nother story!) and it was done by the mechanic. What's the proper procedure? Do I HAVE to use the Dexcool? Thanks.
