hello, im new on this forum.
i currently own a 1999 gmc sierra.
i live in fort worth, where as some of you may know it is getting
quite hot out. last night i started my truck up and popped the ac on and my truck died in the middle of the street as i was driving.
the ac turned on, but the engine shut down completely. it still runs, but i cannot run it with the ac on as well. i was thinking maybe it could be the alternator. any ideas?????

the ac uses very little amps and that is only for the compresser clutch
the fan uses the same amps wether it is for the ac, heater, or just on
unplug the compresser and does it still happen
headlights on, radio on, does it happen

I am thinking that your AC compressor has gone bad and seized up, so every time you turn on your AC. The AC compressor is bogging down your engine and making it stall out.

There it a center bolt on your your compressor that you can try to turn with a socket wrench to see if your compressor has gone bad. DO THIS WITH YOUR ENGINE NOT RUNNING OR WE WILL NEVER GET ANOTHER RESPONSE FOR YOU AGAIN LOL

Be safe and post us back and we can go from here to getting your Sierra running with the AC again

Figure it out? On other vehicles, I would look at the Idle Air Controller. When the A/C comes on, the PCM is suppose to speed up the engine with the IAC.
