I have a 2002 Sierra 5.3. When driving around town everything works fine with the truck. However, the last two long distance drives( 2 hours or more) i have noticed a ticking noise coming from the drivers side of the engine. The noise will just randomly start after a decent amount of driving and stops once I turn the engine off. The noise will also increase or decrease with rpm's. Does anyone know what this might be or have any leads for me? Im trying to avoid taking it to a mechanic if thats possible. Thanks

Could be a dirty lifter, try adding some Marvel mystery oil 200 miles before your next oil change to clean out the internals of your engine and switch to using shell Rotella 15W-40 used in diesel commercial engine.
This may help your engine last for many years to come.

Same ticking noise with my 2002 5.3. Did everything I could think of. Cleaned junk in oil pan, changed pickup tube o-ring, cleaned junk inside heads and around valve stems. Sprayed cleaner down lifter holes. Still ticked. Removed valve cover drivers side. Cranked engine. (Don't worry about spraying oil) My problem was a bad rocker arm. Moving around causing ticking noise. 15.00$ at GM dealer part# W0133-1763277. Torque new arm to 22 ft lb and no more tick. My truck is quieter than a church mouse.
