Hi,

I have a GMC Sierra 1500 / 2012 and have the Bluetooth controls on the steering wheel. However, when I press and hold the button that is used for pairing, the only thing that happens is that the audio goes mute. Can someone help me understand why this is happening?

If you hold down the "Call" button (center of the three) long enough, you should hear the prompt. At that point, you say "blueooth" to start the bluetooth menus.

If you're hearing nothing, then it's possible you're not pressing the button long enough. I would say it takes about 2-3 seconds of holding down the button to get a voice prompt. If not, you may need to take it in and have it looked at.

Hi, Thanks! I've tried that many times, holding it pressed for more than 5 seconds. Seems like I have to go and get it checked.

Hello Ravin V,

I apologize that you are having trouble pairing your phone in your Sierra. Have you followed the instructions in Chapter 7, page 50 of your owner’s manual? If you do not have your owner’s manual, let me know and I can send you the information on that page. If you already have tried that process, I would suggest making an appointment with your dealership to have them look into this. I would be more than happy to assist you in setting up an appointment if you would like. Please feel free to private message me if you would like to discuss your concern further. I will be looking for your future updates.

Hi Greg,

Many thanks for your advise. I failed to mention that I am not based in US but in Qatar. Could you please send me the relevant pages in the owner's manual? Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Ravin

Hi Gregory

Could you please share with me the relevant pages in the Owner's Manual. Thanks!

Hello Ravin V,

I would be more than happy to do that for you! Here are the steps listed in chapter 7, page 50:

“Pairing a Phone

1. Press and hold the initiate call button on the steering wheel (This button has the picture of phone on a diagonal slant and a picture of an arrow pointing into a mouth) for two seconds.

2. Say “Bluetooth.” This command can be skipped.

3. Say “Pair.” The system responds with instructions and a four‐digit Personal Identification Number (PIN). The PIN is used in Step 5.

4. Start the pairing process on the cell phone that you want to pair. For help with this process, see the cell phone manufacturer's user guide.

5. Locate the device named “Your Vehicle” in the list on the cell phone. Follow the instructions on the cell phone to enter the PIN provided in Step 3. After the PIN is successfully entered, the system prompts you to provide a name for the paired cell phone. This name will be used to indicate which phones are paired and connected to the vehicle. The system responds with “<phone name> has been successfully paired” after the pairing process is complete.

6. Repeat Steps 1 through 5 to pair additional phones.”
I hope this information helps! Please let me know if this does not work. You can reach me via private message. I’ll be looking for your updates!
