2000 Jimmy 4x4 auto transmission shifts hard from neutral to 1st or neutral to reverse. All other shifting ok. Any suggestions.

trans harsh shift

Some of these trannys have electronic shift control modules in the pan areas of the trannys Go to google type in how to tell if my 4L60-E transmission is bad. It will direct you to a site called troubleshootmyvehicle.com It has very good info about trans issues.

When transmission suddenly become very hard shifting when going from park to either reverse or drive it seams to slams into gear. 1-2 and 2-3 shifts may also be harsh and shifting gears seems to work fine. If problem may also be intermittent, good chance the TPS is worn out. Check the TPS for smooth electrical response and if the response is jumpy or erratic at all, replace the TPS.

If the transmission has a extremely harsh shifts from P or N, but normal shifts at WOT, then its the EPC (Electronic Pressure Control) solenoid has failed. Easily fixed by dropping the pan and replacing the EPC valve. Fix as soon as possible or hard parts will eventually break and causing a more expensive repair. ;)

Thanks. I will look into those suggestions as soon as I get back from holidays.
