I have a 1995 gmc k1500 and when im driving down the road it sometimes has a rattiling sound i believe only in 5th gear. but as soon i put any pressure on the clutch it goes away. what could this be? i was thinking the throwout bearing but its not constant and its a rattle

Typically, a throwout bearing if failing, will be noisy when the clutch is depressed. Sound like something else to me.

Shot in the dark, but have you checked all you linkage to your transmission???? That includes you shift linkage and the clutch throw out fork and related parts.

Keep us posted and good luck, at worst. It could be a "nick" on one of the counter gears on you 5th gear.

I'm 18 and am learning as stuff breaks. Any idea how I'd check these? Thankyou
