Tranny issues, I think ?

I have a 4x4 94 Sonoma with only about 70,000 miles on it, last couple of months once in a while on the freeway the rpms would go high and the speedometer would drop, running weird, the problem would come and go, I gave it some tranny fluid and it seemed to fix it but recently it's got worse and today the rpms shot way up and I am barely moving, could this be a dirty tranny filter or something more serious, any help would be appreciated.

Hello John...

This forum does not seem to be very interactive...lots of people look, but few replys! I have posted with only one reply... However, I have had identical tranny symptoms on a different vehicle as you are experiencing and it was the torque converter. Got a rebuilt unit, had the tranny flushed and cleaned by a mechanic, and it went super after that. I hope your Sonoma problem is now solved, but if it isnt try looking at the torque converter.

Thanks Ernie, I really appreciate the reply, I'm looking for a local place to have the tranny looked at soon I hope, would a dealer be a first or last choice ??
