Odd problem thats stumping me

First off... let me introduce myself. My name is Kevin and I have an 01' Sonoma 4x4. I am getting this odd problem (at least to me) that makes the truck shift hard. It winds out to 4300 RPM then shifts real hard. The speedo also drops to zero, then back up to correct speed, then to zero, then back up. The ABS, Brake, and check engine light come on when this happens. The error code read that it could have been the variable speed sensor in the trans. A trans shop replaced it and it did not correct the prob. They told me that the trans was fine and that I needed to take it to an engine mechanic. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

I think you need to get a second opinion from another transmission shop. That doesn't sound like an engine problem to me. It sounds just like what my '03 was doing just before I replaced the transmission. (It WAS the transmission.)

Inspect the wire harness from the VVS which is located at the tail shaft of your transmission. If thats good, then work your way to your PCM which is located on your passengers side on your fender well jut after the battery.

Make sure when you take the connectors apart, inspect that the connecting pins are not corroded or damaged. The other area that also needs to be addressed is the TPS. Inspect it to make sure it has a smooth and linear electrical response over the entire range of motion. If its does not have a smooth and linear reading, then replace it.
