I have a 2015 Sierra 2500HD. Like most, I find the headlights to be too dim.

I'm looking at LED bulbs to replace (Lumen vs PIAA vs Oracle). They appear to be plug and play (except for routing the ballast). The problem is the depth they require due to the fan that most of these have at the base.. I can't tell if they'll fit within the headlight housing and allow the dust cover to screw back on. I don't mind carving out the dust cover, but on the passenger side, the proximity of the airbox limits the clearance even more.

Will LED headlight conversion bulbs fit in the 2015 Sierra's without modifying the airbox in some way?

Also....I note that most of the LED bulbs that supposedly fit the 2015 Sierras are 9005. Except for Lumen, who gives me the choice of 9005's or 9012's. The stock bulb is a 9012/HIR2. 9005 is supposedly a high beam, 9012 is supposedly a high/low beam. Why would they say that a 9005 would work? Don't these projectors use a shield to give low-beam cutoff?

As we see, there is a relative lack of knowledge about the well-known GMC dim-headlight problem.

As an update to my post above...the OEM headlight is a 9012/HIR2 bulb. Most of the LED conversion bulbs are 9005. Maybe it doesn't matter since, as I understand it, the difference between brights and dims is a mechanical shutter that provides the dim-cutoff, but Lumen provides a choice of 9012 or 9005 for the 2015 Sierras, and the tech at CarID seemed pretty clear that the 9012 version of the G8 LED was the appropriate one. I ordered it, so I guess we'll find out.

Nice bonus....when I originally looked at these bulb conversions, they were $167. Currently they come with a 25%-off for Black Friday->CyberMonday, and free shipping. $123.67

In looking at the other LED bulb conversions available, I see that the base, which contains a cooling fan is of varying depths. It looks like I can have about 1.75 inches of clearance from the headlight base to the back of the screw-on dust cover. The Lumen G8 bulbs have the shortest protruding base at 1.38 inches, so I went with those. Just waiting the things to arrive, and we'll see if and how they actually fit. Not sure yet what I'm going to do with the ballast. I don't think it's going to fit insides the headlight housing so no doubt I'll have to drill two grommeted holes in the dust cover and mount it outside.

I order the same lights for my 2500HD. Did they end up fitting behind the dust covers without any modifications?
