00 4x4 broken shifts but no go

i looking at my sisters truck she used her 4x4 and it banged one time.. but never got around to looking at it.. now snow here i was trying to move it it shifts into 4x4 mode but nothing happens i guessing the shaft inside is broken??

what is the procedure to fix this is it a lot of work is it worth fixing are the parts expensive?
