'01 Jimmy Broken Hood Release Cable-Open Hood Form Outside

2001 Jimmy with a broken hood latch cable. I need to get the hood open from the outside. Cable snapped clean so there's no grabbing it with pliers from inside the car. I have searched these forums and the internet and have seen lots of answers for different cars. But rarely anything with pics or video of how to pop that particular GMC latch from the outside. I can't even find a reliable pic of what the latch system looks like. So any help is much appreciated. Especially pics or video. The vehicle also has a short circuit somewhere that drains the battery. I have to throw a charger on it to get it to crank...and it's going on 2 weeks now. HELP. Thanks.

You still trying to release your hood? I will try to help by looking at my Sonoma since they are simular

Bad situation. Makes me want to lift my hood and investigate how to put in place an emergency (*dangling) cable.
