Hey Everyone,
I'm new here, I just got my first Sierra. I'm pretty happy about it, my dads always had one and I finally had enough money (5 grand) to buy an 01 sierra 1500 for myself.
So I just got it and of course it needs a little bit of work..like all cars ive had :-P. Anyway - 1st and 2nd gear grinds a little bit, but only sometimes, when it's at real low RPM. Also - when I push the clutch in to shift, it makes this clunky sound - once again only sometimes and only in 1st and 2nd gear. But if I take my foot off the gas before i push in the clutch (causing me to accelerate really slowly) - it doesn't clunk - but if i shift regularly, it doesn't sound good.
Anybody have any ideas of what that could be?

Info about the truck:
its their smallest engine - a V6,
Single cab, extended bed,
5 speed
4WD.

Thanks everyone,
Pete

Inspect your transmission mounts, and at your drive shaft yoke. Add grease in to your drive shaft yoke where it mates into your transmission tail end spine. Common for the yoke to wear out and there will me excess play causing the noise your describing. At worst, replace the yoke to the drive shaft.

Good luck on your 01 sierra and keep us posted. ;)

Hey,
Sorry I took so long to reply. Yeah I checked my yoke and there seems to be too much play it in when i push straight up on it...side to side seems okay. So I guess I have to replace that yoke...hope it's not too expensive. Thanks for your quick responce and you clearly know what the problem is, so thats cool. Other than that shes running great!

Before you replace the Yoke, try adding grease as i mentioned to take the play out. This will confirm if you do need a new Yoke and will not be a bad time to also replace the transmission mount if you like since your there anyways. ;)

Keep us posted and good luck.
