I have a 03 Sierra 1500 Z71. When I push on the brakes sometimes it feels like I'm crunching something with my foot it also sounds like I'm crushing something.

Is it your anti lock going off? I had a 98 S10 about about 12 years ago.. I was 16... Scared the crap out of the first time I felt the anti lock breaks. I'm sure you know, but anti lock breaks are so you don't have to bump your breaks in a skid.. You feel it in your foot that it's pumping it really quickly.
