My Dad's Sierra 2500 sat for 13 years. Long story. Engine is 350. 4 speed manual transmission. This spring my brother and I got it running again. We did the right things...turned it by hand first and put a little oil in each cylinder prior to the first try. I'll be danged if the old beast didn't start and run on about the 5th try! Of course it ran pretty darn rough.

We drained all the old fuel out of the driver's side tank and have probably run 10 or 12 gallons of fresh through it during test drives and tinkering. Motor and transmission oils have been changed. New fuel filter. It has new plugs and leads, and I tackled the carburetor rebuild (Carter Quadrajet). Ran a lot better but was after-firing. I stupidly messed with the timing before realizing that timing won't change on an electronic ignition system, but it is fairly well timed as of now.

Lately we've had the issue that the truck will start right up and run, but after a few minutes it dies and won't restart until it has sat for a while. PCV valve is good...don't know what else to check. I'm guessing there is a problem with my carburetor rebuild. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Have done some more troubleshooting. Purrs like a kitten until it dies then will not restart. Automatic choke is working well and ignition is working well. This is really a mystery and I'd love some input!
