I went to start in up the other day when it was cold and it would not start. Now when I try to start it my GLOW PLUG light won't come one. While I was trying to start it, the water sensor in the fuel filter blew out. Any Ideas? It will still try and turn over, just won't fire.

Check the fuse and relay to your glow plug, then work your way to the wire harness to your glow plugs to make sure there getting power. You can use starter fluid to start your engine, just spray it through your air intake tube.

Just spray about 5 seconds in the intake tube and then try to start the engine. It should fire up after a few cranks, colder days you may have to spray a little longer.

Good luck and keep us posted. ;)

any ideas why my water sensor on the fuel filter blows out?

Other then old and corroded sensor, nope. In a diesel engine, the fuel pressure is much higher then in a gas engine's. The diesel is sprayed in to the combustion camber through the injectors and needs high pressure to atomize the diesel to have it flash over to ignite.

Did you get the engine to run????

There's signs of life

Put a new relay in and that did not reslove the glow plug issue. However I used a the volt meter and found that the relay was not getting power. I manually applied the power to the relay and the glow plug light came on. What do I search for now? There is a wiring mess under the hood of this truck. I don't know how to straighten it all out.

I figured out what the plug in the fuel filter was. It was an aftermarket heating coil that goes down into the fuel. It had broke and the seal had gone bad. That's what was popping out of the fuel filter and causing the leak.

Sprayed the starter fluid and the truck fired right up.

Thank you for the great news. You might be better off running a hot wire to your starter solenoid to activate your Glow plug relay and then it would turn it self off when the engine is fired up since it will only get power when the solenoid for the starter is powered up also. ;) Just don't forget to wire it up with the solenoid it self so it turns it self off once you get the engine fired up or your going to cook your Glow plugs.

So basically what I am doing is running a hot wire from the starter to the relay so when I am trying to start the truck the relay is sending power to the glow plugs? The new hot will not send power to the relay as long as I'm not starting the truck correct? Someone else told me that I could also put a toggle switch inside the cab that I could flip off and on.

Yes you can do the toggle switch also if you like, just remember to turn it off when the engine starts. As mentioned you can wire it off the starter or track down to where the issue is to why your not getting power to the Glow plug relay. ;)

Keep up the great work and keep us updated.
