I have a 91 Sonoma SL and my check engine light seems to come on in stop and go traffic (could be a coincidence but doesnt seem to happen when I can drive freely) it stays on for about 20 seconds and then goes out. Last night it happened 4 different times. What could be some issues that is causing this? Im not sure if something needs fixing or if its a loose wire.

Thanks

Here is a link to address your check engine light. Since you have a 1991 Sonoma, you ECM is on a OBD1 system and you can retrieve the codes your self with a simple paper clip.

Good luck and post back your DTC code, be glad to help you address the issue your having. ;) http://www.troublecodes.net/GM/

Thanks! I didnt see my engine on the list. I have a 2.5 Vin E. I am new to this stuff and not sure where that panel is either. If the check engine light only comes on sporadically would the code even help?
I appreciate your feedback :-)

You and the 2.5L "Iron Duke" engine on your Sonoma. Use this link http://www.troublecodes.net/GM/89-91_25R_tbi.shtml. I think the R is a typo, E family engine are TBI engine and the R family engine are MFI system.

The OCD1 docking is located at the diver's side under the dash by the E-break release leaver. http://tunertools.com/vendorinfo/carconnector.jpg

Good luck and keep us posted. :D
