Do you think 170k miles is pushing it if i decided to buy this car it's in good shape but i wanna it to last a while but i also dont have a huge budget how many miles do you think it has left on the engine?

An older car engine could go bad tomorrow with no warning or it could go another 100,000 miles. I've seen brand new ones die on the way home from a showroom. There's no way to tell for sure. Just check to see that it was well maintained, that it runs smoothly at idle, when accelerating, at speed on the highway, and keep your fingers crossed.

ya never know just depends on how well its been taken care of and the kind of area its been in. like if its lived most its life off road id say it will last awhile longer (if well taken care of) if its been muddin and off roadin i wouldnt buy it

413,000KM on my 1997. Runs like a champ. My dad owns a 1997 Ford Aerostar with 600,000+KM on it and it is doing just fine. I've found it is hard to judge an engine directly by its mileage. That's not to say mileage doesn't matter but it is not the be all end all.

Does it run well? are you blowing blue smoke? is the gas consumption retarded? how many cranks does it take to start? is the engine leaking any fluids? Answering these questions will probably be a better gauge of an engines reliability.
