My 93 GMC Sonoma occasionally will not start. I've replaced the plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor button. After I did this 1 weekend ago, it's been starting fine then, today, after work, it wouldn't start again. Any idea what I can try next?

It's been doing this for about a month or so now. Not starting occasionally. IF I wait a couple hours, it starts back up again.

I'm going nuts!!!!

Won't Always Start

Is it typically warm when it won't start?

I would consider the coil and ICM (if it has one).

However, first I would change the fuel filter and thoroughly test the fuel pump (with a fuel pressure gauge at the fuel rail). If it's TBI or CPI I would pour a small amount of gas into the intake and see if it starts. That tells me it's the fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator.

Thank you for responding. We live in Charlotte, NC so, it's not been too cold down here. I have already replaced the fuel pump and filter.

Haven't checked the ICM yet but will. It started this morning when I tapped the bottom of the distributor with a screwdriver. Distributor maybe?

It's common for the wire harness and Ignition control module under the distributor rotor to get corroded. There is a screen at the bottom of the distributor to allow ventilation to prevent condensation, but after a few years and the screen not being cleaned but the average do it your self person. The screen plugs up with dirt and condensation forms, promoting corrosion to the wires in the distributor making the ICM to fail. Good luck and replace the ICM, they go for around $45.00 at most auto parts store.
