About a year ago our backup truck, the 1993 GMC Sierra, developed an issue. To start it you'd have to hold down the accelerator all the way and pump it, when it started it would sit and run forever but when you'd put it into gear or give it any gas it would die.

We replaced the throttle position sensor but the problem didn't go away and now it doesn't want to start at all after sitting since last fall. I've tested pin 1 and 2 on the TPS and it goes from 10kohm closed throttle to 2kohm full throttle. From searching the internet most (or at least some) automobiles are supposed to go from 2-10 instead of 10-2 but i figured since the new sensor is like this then the sierra just reads it differently.

When trying to start it now when you give it no gas at all the jets spray a massive amount of fuel into the intake and when you give it full throttle it sprays the least amount of fuel. It seems to be backwards which reinforces my idea that the TPS we got might not be right.

I'm completely clueless on what this could be and I'd really appreciate any help in trying to figure this out.

You could have a fuel pressure regulator issue and also you may want to replace your Fuel filter, the other issue also that may cause this would be a ICM (ignition control module) that has gone bad. Start with the simple and try replacing your fuel filter and inspect your vacuum line to your fuel pressure regulator.

Keep us posted ;)
