Hello everyone,,,,,new here and my names kris..Happy holidays to everyone...I just bought a 93 sierra 4.3 and to me I got a good deal. I'm just detailing it the shiii out of it because it's in really good shape.. Anyways I think there may be no themostat in it because it runs really cool,,,(by the gauge anyways)))I was just curious as to why the previous owner may have left it out....I live in Florida....I'm going to open it up this weekend and look....But are there any bad things that could happen???? Would this cause really bad gas milage also???? If I need to get one what temp would be best???

The correct temperature is 195 Degree which the ECM was programed for the engine to run it's best. The alternative is 180 Degree but your better off running the 195 Degree OEM thermostat.

Without a thermostat, it will take you longer for the engine to warm up and cause your engine to run richer which will promote carbon build up in your engine upper intake and valves.

When you install the new OEM thermostat, you might as also replace the temperature sensor also. Will not be a bad idea also to flush out your coolant with http://www.prestone.com/ coolant flush. This will clear up any contaminants in your radiator and heater core.

Good luck and keep us posted. :D

Thanx Molson..........I will replace it also....

So I changed out the thermostat,,,,before it would just barely go above 100 degrees now it goes half way between the 100 and 210 mark..I think thats about 160..It should be up closer to the 210 mark right???? I did not replace the sensor, could that be the problem??? Where are temps hovering guys??? Close to the 210 mark? Or halfway like mine? Thanks

Should be closer to the 210 mark, but the gauge on the dash is not that accurate and is there just as a comfort reading to you. My money is on the temp sensor. Replace it and make sure the wires are in good shape, no bare wire showing.

The temperature sensor is located on the drivers side head close to the fire wall. Here is a link and #206 is the sensor your looking for. http://www.compnine.com/index.php?u...delid=6557&capuid=1&majorgroup=00&grouptype=B Great work and keep us posted. ;)
