tring to replace the fuel pump having a hard time getting the tank down is there a way to get to it with out droping the tank

No. You must drop the tank to gain access to the fuel pump.

i just got done replacing my fuel pump in my 98 jimmy...before u try and drop it make sure you have disconnected the filler hose, return hose, and two wire connections and 3 hoses on top of the fuel pump assembly. also on the front of the tank there is a fuel tank vent valve hose that you have to make sure to disconnect also. if don't disconnect this before trying to drop it there is a good chance of breaking it. with all of those disconnected and the two straps taken off it should come right out.
