I have a 1996 GMC Jimmy v-6 2wd and I am having problems with the heater and A/C. Its will blow both hot and cold air, but only out of the defrost vents and very lightly out of the floor vents. Can anyone help me with figuring out what is wrong with it and how to fix it? I would greatly appreciate it. 'Cause it gets pretty dang hot in the summer down here and Texas and having no A/C kinda sucks.. Lol.

you either have a vacuum leak in one of the hoses under the dash going to the dash pots or you have a main vacuum hose leak which feeds the system, or you have a bad control panel (leaking at the vacuum manifold on the control panel), or you have a bad vacuum pot most likely the blend door pot.

have fun tracking down that leak lol. any one leak will put the system into defrost/floor mode as those are normally already in that position when the car is off. blend door is usually off and closed also. once the engine is cranked, they get engine vacuum which is used to open/close the vacuum pots as they act as swing doors for the various climate control settings.

Common for the vacuum line to go bad from the intake manifold, driver's side over the brake booster and in to the vacuum canister at the drivers fender. Just follow the lines and replace any lines that show any signs of dry rot or cracks. Start from there and work your way through out the vacuum lines, good luck and hope this helps. ;)
