Would appreciate advice/opinion of experienced members.

I got tired of replacing the leaking oil cooler hoses on my '97 K1500 wi 5.7L, & this time decided to just replace OEM cooler lines-to-radiator with 400 psi power steering hose and 1/2" X 3/8" barb adapters at the filter/cooler adapter on block. Thereby eliminating the weak crimped OEM/aftermarket cooler lines, that don't seem to last more than a year or two.

Everything worked fine, except that I apparently over-torqued the barb adapters at the filter housing & cracked the darn filter housing! This shows the crack at the pump-out fitting:

Rather than replace the entire filter adapter housing ($115), I was thinking about simply replacing it with this ($16):

And eliminating the oil cooler & cooler lines completely (I'd just plug the radiator cooler coil fittings).

I rarely take this veh off-road, and I never tow anything.

Would you expect this non-spec mod to result in reduced engine life, or require more frequent oil changes?

Thanks for any thoughts!
