While back took the Jimmy in to get smogged. I was told my #2 cylinder on was arcing. I replaced the spark plug wires and immediately noticed the difference with more power from the engine. It seems I am arcing once again at the boot on the sparkplug. I can see the spark arcing from the boot to the heat sheild. I pulled the boot off put it back snuggly and secure. Still there is a sligh arc in the same spot. I'm already planning or replacing that wire, just wondering why it's the same cylinder or contines to happen. I know that you want to hear and feel that pop when putting on the sparkplug wires. Wondering if it may have popped off but seems unlikely? I'm going to make sure the sparkplug is tightened all the way in which I believe it is. Just wondering what would cause this? I don't want to run my jimmy if I am going to have a down cylinder. Just sucks cause I feel now I have to keep an eye on this contsantly.

I would replace the plug wires as as a set, and make sure you get a good qualitity set of wires. I would also replace the plugs. Once you start arcing like that you get what they call carbon tracking. This can be very hard to see on a plug, easier to see this tracking inside the distrib cap.

I would also think about replacing the distrib cap and rotor.

Checking for arcing in the dark or at night has helped me get a better look at the problem area. But your eyes may be better than mine.
